LECTURES
Week 1
Mr. Fauzi organized a Google Meet session to give an overview of the Digital Photography and Imaging (DPI) course. We started by reviewing some basic guidelines and then moved on to discussing the importance of Adobe Creative Cloud, especially how Photoshop is essential in the professional world. The lecturer offered useful advice on how to effectively use the tools in these programs and emphasized the potential achievements we can reach if we fully engage with the course.
Week 2
In this lecture, Mr. Fauzi covered the basics of composition, including concepts like the rule of thirds, the golden ratio, and various framing and cropping techniques. These insights are aimed at guiding us in the creation and arrangement of our physical collage, helping us achieve a more balanced and visually appealing outcome.
Week 4
Mr. Fauzi provided a more in-depth exploration of Photoshop tools, focusing on color manipulation. He explained how to adjust colors using various techniques, including filters, opacity settings, and adjustment layers, giving us a better understanding of how to enhance our digital projects.
Week 5
Mr. Fauzi delivered a concise lecture on the fundamentals of photography techniques and how we can replicate various effects using Photoshop. He demonstrated effects like double exposure, tilt-shift, and shadow manipulation. Additionally, he introduced us to blend modes, explaining how different modes can be used to adjust darkening, lightening, and contrast in our images.
Week 6
Mr. Fauzi lectured on the fundamental principles of poster design, specifically 7 principles. This will prepare us for the second assignment (typography skills are involved).
- Emphasis
- What sticks out (typeface)
- Hierarchy
- Focal point
- Balance and Alignment
- Hierarchy
- Foreground, midground, background
- Contrast
- What makes a design 'pops'
- Creates differences between elements in your design
- The background needs to be significantly different from the color of the elements
- Repetition
- 2 strong typefaces or 3 strong colors are fine
- Repetition unifies and strengthens a design
- Proportion
- Visual side and weight of a composition
- Approach your design in sections instead of a whole
- Movement
- Controls elements in a composition
- Proper communication for the eye (how our eye travels across the design)
- White Space (negative space)
- Gives the composition more room to breath
- Empty space can 'upgrade' the composition

Week 1
Our first task was to research 3 favourite graphic design from Pinterest.
Design #1:

Description: The blue and white tones create an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity that is particularly eye-catching.
The image of a night city overlooking a river under a starry sky demonstrates a great combination of elements. The stars not only add visual interest but also create a contrast with the darker shades, emphasising the depth of the scene.
Design #2:

Description:I loved this poster featuring a violin in a water and glass design. It immediately attracts attention with its unusual and creative approach. The violin with fish swimming out of it creates an interesting visual image, combining music and nature in one element.
This metaphor symbolises the harmony between art and nature, showing how music can ‘come out’ of instruments and fill the world around us. Water and glass give the work a lightness and transparency that enhances the impression.

Week 2
1. Physical Collage Creation Exercise
Students were asked to create a physical collage as part of an exercise to help prepare for our first project, creating a digital collage. This exercise allowed us to learn the basic principles of composition and working with materials that will be used in a more complex digital version.
Since I flew to Malaysia to study, I don't have the opportunity to use real materials to make a collage. So I decided to make it in photoshop using digital images. This allowed me to create the desired result despite not having things to cut out.

DESCRIPTION:
I learnt the correct use of the programme tools. I used the ‘Magic Wand’ tool to select complex and large shapes, and used the ‘Pen’ tool for simpler and thinner contours. After I prepared all the elements by removing the background, I started creating the collage

DESCRIPTION:
In this work, I applied ‘adjustment layers and filters’. I learnt new photo editing tools and worked on each layer. I used adjustments such as ‘Colour Tone/Saturation’, ‘Levels 1’ and ‘Colour Balance’ to enhance the image.
Week 5
Below is the outcome after following the tutorial.

Part 2B
For Part 2B, I had to select one of the photos and recolour it.
I decided to recolour the photo of Barack Obama, and below are the colour layers used:

- Hair
- Eyes

REFLECTION
The project was a great opportunity for me to learn a lot of important things Although I have worked with Adobe Photoshop before, this project made me realise how superficial my knowledge of Adobe Photoshop was. . I learned new tools and techniques such as colour correction, using layer masks and colour correction, which I had previously found complicated The video tutorials provided by the instructor were especially helpful They were very detailed and accessible, which allowed me to understand the complex functions of the programmes step by step
The video tutorials provided by the tutor were particularly helpful to me
. Thanks to them I was able to understand step by step how to use different Photoshop tools and apply this knowledge in practice These lessons made it much easier to complete the assignments, and also allowed me to understand the functionality of the programmes more deeply
Ultimately, I realised how important it is not only to master Photoshop, but also to understand the basic principles of photography, such as composition and colour theory The interaction of these two aspects makes it much easier to work on design and create more professional and expressive work.
