REFLECTION
Experiences:
This semester has been a challenging yet inspiring journey where I explored different aspects of typography step by step. In Task 1, I experimented with various typographic systems, which pushed me to think more critically about composition and spatial organization. Creating layouts based on axial, radial, and other systems helped me understand how structure influences visual flow. In Task 2, I faced the most difficulties, especially when developing my personal wordmark. Finding the right balance between simplicity and personality took many revisions. Each week, after receiving Mr. Vinod’s feedback, I refined stroke weights, adjusted proportions, and reworked spacing until I achieved a result that felt authentic to my style. Expanding the wordmark into collateral design was exhausting but also exciting because it felt like real branding work. Finally, Task 3 was the most enjoyable for me, as I could apply everything I learned to create a complete typeface and use it in a real-world context — the HONOR clock design. It felt rewarding to see my font functioning as part of a digital interface.
Observations:
Through these tasks, I observed how much patience and persistence typography requires. Even small details, such as kerning or the angle of a curve, can dramatically change the look and feel of a letterform. I also noticed that testing the typeface in actual applications, like posters or digital screens, is essential to evaluate its effectiveness. Comparing my early attempts with the final version made me realize how much iterative design improves the quality of work. I also observed that every task connected to the next one — what I learned in typographic systems and wordmark design directly influenced my approach to creating the typeface in Task 3.
Findings:
The biggest lesson I learned is that typography is both a creative and systematic process. Inspiration is important, but consistent effort, observation, and refinement are what truly shape a successful design. I discovered that my typeface works best in minimalist and clean layouts, which enhances its elegant personality. Another key finding is that applying typography to real products, like the HONOR competition clock, helps to see its commercial and functional potential. Overall, this semester taught me to look at typography not only as an artistic expression but as a tool for clear communication and user experience.
